Information processing, motivation and decision making

چکیده
In (Botelho and Coelho, 1995) the authors presented a model of memory for autonomous artificial agents (SALT: Schema-Associative Long Term memory). The main feature of the SALT model is that it allows agents to exhibit contextdependent cognition. This is an important feature since it enables us to gain a better understanding of the reasons why someone may produce different decisions about a given problem, in different situations. In our research we focus on decisions regarding personnel selection. Namely, we are interested in addressing situations in which a manager with a particular task to be done has to decide which of his or her subordinates will be assigned to its execution. In this paper we present the COMINT model, a COgnition and Motivation INTegration model of decision making. The COMINT model extends the original SALT model to explain the influence of motivation in the information processing mechanism of the decision maker. We show that the quality of the decision making process depends on both the motivation to search information in the long term memory of the decision maker, and the motivation to ignore information. We conclude that the COMINT model is able of generating the four different decision making styles described in (Forgas, 1994), using a single information processing mechanism. Along the paper, some aspects of the implementation of the model are discussed and an example is presented.

Optimal decision making is a prerequisite for job success, and decisions are influenced by motivations. This research was conducted to assess the optimal level of farmers' occupational decision making and the impact of job motivation and other factors on it by descriptive - correlational research and using a survey technique in Marvdasht Township of Fars province. The sample size (249 people) w...

We present a computational model of decision making called COMINT (COgnition and Motivation INTegration model). The model explains the role of motivation in decision making. COMINT is able of generating the four decision making styles proposed by Forgas (1994), using a single information processing mechanism, like suggested in (Baumeister and Newman, 1994). The model considers two kinds of moti...
متن کاملFactors Affecting Information Search Behavior in Purchasing an Outbound Package Tour: A Thematic Analysis
The present study seeks to examine the factors affecting information search of heads of households in purchasing an outbound package tour. A sample of 60 academics and non-academics in the field of tourism was chosen. Sampling methods were judgmental and snowball sampling. In order to gather data, we used a semi-structured interview. Thematic analysis was applied for data analysis, and the col...
متن کاملA DSS-Based Dynamic Programming for Finding Optimal Markets Using Neural Networks and Pricing
One of the substantial challenges in marketing efforts is determining optimal markets, specifically in market segmentation. The problem is more controversial in electronic commerce and electronic marketing. Consumer behaviour is influenced by different factors and thus varies in different time periods. These dynamic impacts lead to the uncertain behaviour of consumers and therefore harden the t...
متن کاملAn extended hesitant group decision-making technique based on the prospect theory for emergency situations
Throughout the present manuscript, we are going to introduce a novel group emergency decision-making technique in which the application of prospect theory explains the psychological behaviour of the decision maker who is affected by the hesitancy and uncertainty of cognition in decision making problems.\Instead of usual aggregation procedure, we implement here a new fusion technique that ...

Good governance promotion in the health sector needs effective policies and evidence-based decision making. Using efficient and effective information is an important issue so that planners will not be confused amid many figures and numbers and also the main problem will not be marginalized. Hence, having a common language and consensus between policy makers and decision makers about the cycle (...
